Amnesty International Case Study - ASR’s Experience In Supplying Leading HR & Payroll Software Solutions Is The Perfect Choice For Amnesty International |

| Valued CustomerAmnesty International UK, the British arm of the world's leading and most high profile human rights organisation, has been using ASR’s HR software for over 4 years to help manage its employees and volunteers. ASR has experience in dealing with small and large charities. Amnesty International was founded on the belief in the power of ordinary people to make extraordinary change. In 1961, British lawyer Peter Benenson wrote a newspaper appeal, 'The Forgotten Prisoners', calling for an international campaign to protest against the imprisonment of men and women for their political or religious beliefs. Within six months, what started as a brief publicity effort, was being developed into a permanent, international movement. Amnesty International is now the world's largest international voluntary organisation dealing with human rights. With over 1.8 million members and supporters in more than 150 countries and territories who are united by a determination to work for a world where everyone enjoys human rights. Amnesty International UK employs over 150 people and around 80 volunteers with offices based around the UK in London, Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff. HR are a team of 4 are based in London at their new Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch. Why HR?Sally Doxford has recently joined Amnesty International UK’s HR team as HR Manager. Sally initially wanted a career in physiotherapy; however her first role in HR at the world-renowned Harrods department store made her firmly believe that HR was definitely a career path that she would like to pursue. Whilst at Harrrods, Sally completed her CIPD qualification by attending lectures two evenings a week. Although studying part time and doing a full time job was very tough, Sally knew that her hard work would be worth it. Sally says: “Harrods gave me my first opportunity in HR and I loved it. I covered all manner of HR functions and before each Christmas I would be involved in a huge recruitment drive for over 800 temporary workers. As you can imagine, the recruitment process was absolutely manic, but the role was brilliant and fascinating.” ASR’s HR SoftwareAfter being at Harrods for over 2 years, Sally moved to the Commonwealth Secretariat. It was at the Commonwealth Secretariat that Sally was first exposed to ASR and their HR Software solution, HR Professional. Although not involved in the purchase of HR Professional, Sally was key in configuring ASR’s flexible HR Software as their processes changed. Like her role at Harrods, Sally was again involved in recruitment at the Commonwealth Secretariat. ASR’s specific recruitment software module helped to manage their recruitment needs, which involved identifying candidates from all over the Commonwealth. In line with Sally’s career aspirations she moved from the Commonwealth Secretariat to Amnesty International UK as HR Manager, her first taste of management. Sally says: “I have only been here for a few months and am very excited by the role because of what Amnesty stands for.” Along with Amnesty International UK’s 150 employees there are also over 80 volunteers who are involved in all aspects of the charity-working in HR, Finance, Marketing, IT and Campaigns. ASR’s experience in the charity sector helps Amnesty International UK to manage both its employees and volunteers. Rich FunctionalitySally and the other 4 members of the HR team are responsible for all functions relating to HR including training and recruitment. Two of the other members are also new and Sally says: “I am aware of the level of functionality in HR Professional and I want to ensure that we are maximising its true capabilities in order to help drive forward some of the ideas that we have. The system is already doing everything that we want to do at the moment, but the main thing is having the flexibility to change and adapt as the organisation evolves. User Friendly ReportingASR’s HR software comes with it’s own in-built report writer and a comprehensive library of standard reports. The reporting tool can produce powerful analyses, but importantly it is extremely user-friendly, allowing end-users to create new reports as the organisation demands. Sally says: “We are trying to use the reporting tool to it’s full capabilities, extracting information for the management team to help make decisions on the strategy of the organisation. A number of new reports have been developed over time illustrating just how user friendly the reporting tool is. Any new data that is added to the system automatically appears in the report, which is fantastic. “Also, historical information, which covers pretty much every aspect of HR that you can think of is held against an individual employee. This allows you to see the full life-cycle of an employee very quickly and easily. Likewise, the ability to have more than one employee record open at a time to compare and contrast information is really useful.” Additional Services Besides HR software ASR provides customers with access to a UK support desk, a dedicated team of trainers and a User Group meeting, giving customers an opportunity to find out about all the latest developments and to share best practice with each other. ASR looks forward to continuing to help Amnesty International UK to manage their employees and volunteers through their HR Software system.
