ASR e-HR Seminars - HR Systems

Throughout the year ASR is running a series of e-HR Software seminars which, in part, look at how e-HR and HR software solutions provide HR departments with the opportunity to become a strategic value enhancing department.

Over the last few decades HR's capacity to store and maintain information has been considerably enhanced by the ongoing development of HR Systems. The obvious benefits of introducing HR Software are cost savings in terms of both time and storage space together with the reliability and accessibility of data. However, the time saved by storing information electronically has not been as great as one might expect. Ironically, the increased capacity to store information has generated almost as much administration activity as it has eliminated. The more information HR has the more HR can do with it and the more time HR spend manipulating and analysing it. Thus far the information revolution has delivered better access, better analysis and more efficient storage, but we still need to spend quite a lot of time looking after our data in order to keep it reliable and up to date.

More recent technological developments offer the promise of easier and less time consuming information maintenance. Online HR solutions, known as e-HR software (or self-service software), has opened up a whole new world for HR. As in many other sectors, the driving force behind this has been the advent of the World Wide Web and associated phenomena. This is not the only factor, as will be illustrated in the e-HR seminars. But it does mean that, if HR chooses, (and with the right on-line software) it can hand responsibility for information maintenance back to the people who generate it - the employees themselves.

The seminar will explore a scenario where employees maintain their own details offering considerable time-savings to HR practitioners.
